Grading scale
This is an example scale, not an official standard for any school or country, so change it to match yours. The letter grade always comes from the exact percentage. Turning decimals on or off only changes what you see.

Rounding: Letter grades come from the exact percentage. Percentages are rounded only to make them easier to read, and rounding never changes the grade.

Quick reference
Use Questions mode when every question on a quiz or test is worth the same amount. Put in the question count first. Then add either how many were right or how many were missed. Use Points mode whenever any question carries partial credit, extra weight, or a decimal score. Type the points the test was worth, then the points earned or the points lost.

How to use this easy grader
An easy grader, sometimes called an ez grader, converts a score into a percentage. GradeKind also shows the letter grade using your chosen grading scale.
- Choose Questions for equally weighted questions, or Points for assignments with different point values or partial credit.
- Enter the total possible score, then the amount earned or lost.
- Read the percentage and letter grade. Adjust the grading scale to match your school's policy.
Grade calculation examples
The formula is percentage = earned score ÷ total possible score × 100.
- 20 questions, 3 wrong: 17 correct ÷ 20 × 100 = 85%, a B on the default scale.
- 16.5 points out of 20: 16.5 ÷ 20 × 100 = 82.5%, also a B on the default scale.
These letter grades use the example A/B/C/D/F scale. Your school's thresholds may differ. See our grading scale and rounding guide.
Easy grader with half points
Pick Points mode to enter half points like 16.5, quarter points like 16.25, or any partial-credit score with up to four decimal places. Enter the assignment's total possible points, not just its number of questions. For more help, see how partial credit works, the points-to-letter-grade table, or a worked example with questions worth different points.
Printable grading charts
Enter an assignment total to generate its grading chart. Choose the increment, then print or save as PDF using your browser. Very large charts are cut short, and the note under the chart tells you which rows are shown.
Prefer a ready-made chart? Open a printable grading chart out of 10, out of 20, out of 25, out of 50 or out of 100, or browse all grading charts. Popular: 36/50, 42/50, 21/25. For letter-grade and GPA cutoffs, see the grading scale guide.

Easy grader FAQ
What is an easy grader (EZ grader)?
Easy grader and EZ grader are names teachers use for a quick way to turn the number right on a test into a percent and a letter grade. GradeKind's version is free, works online and prints a grading chart for any total.
How do I grade a test with 20 questions?
Divide the number correct by 20 and multiply by 100. Each question is worth 5%, so 17 correct is 85% (a B on the example scale). Enter 20 as the total questions and the easy grader shows the percentage, letter grade and a full chart.
Does it handle half points and partial credit?
Yes. Switch to Points mode and enter scores with up to four decimal places, such as 16.5 or 16.25 out of 20.
Can I use my school's own grade cutoffs?
Yes. Type your school's lowest percent for an A, B, C and D, and they are saved on this device. The tool starts with 90, 80, 70 and 60 only as a sample.
Is GradeKind free, and are student scores stored?
It costs nothing and asks for no email or login. The math runs in your browser, and student names and scores are not stored or sent anywhere.
