VCE ATAR Calculator
Add the study score for each subject and you get an estimated ATAR. Each score is scaled with VTAC's 2025 scaling report, your aggregate is built with VTAC's rules, and the total is checked against VTAC's official 2025 aggregate to ATAR table.
Mark Thursday 10 December 2026: VCE results and ATARs both land at 7am Melbourne time.
Your study scores
Pick a study and type your study score (0 to 50). Start with your English study. You can add up to 8 studies.
Study scores are whole numbers from 0 to 50.
An approved higher education study can count as one of your two increments.

How the ATAR is worked out
VTAC turns your study scores into an ATAR in three steps. This calculator follows the same steps with the latest numbers VTAC has made public, which are from 2025.
- Scaling. Every study score is adjusted for how strong the competition was in that study. A 30 in Specialist Mathematics scaled to 43 in 2025, while a 30 in Food Studies scaled to 23.
- Aggregate. The aggregate adds your scaled English study to your next three highest scaled scores, which together make the primary four. Then 10% of a fifth and a sixth scaled score is added.
- Ranking. VTAC ranks every aggregate and turns it into an ATAR from 0.00 to 99.95 in steps of 0.05. The 2025 table says 155.19 was enough for 90.00 and 211.42 for 99.95.
The VTAC rules this calculator applies
- At least one English study has to sit in your primary four: English, English as an Additional Language, English Language or Literature.
- No more than two studies from the same study area (for example two maths, or two languages) can be in the primary four, and no more than three can count in total.
- VTAC will not count two studies it sees as the same thing, such as English plus English as an Additional Language, or one language taken at two levels (first language, second language or second language advanced).
- Only six studies can contribute. If you have more, the best permissible six are used.
- A university study done as part of VCE adds 5.0, 4.5, 4.0, 3.5 or 3.0 depending on your average mark, and takes one of the two increment spots.
Worked example
Say you score English 32, Mathematical Methods 35, Chemistry 33, Biology 30, Psychology 36 and Legal Studies 28. With 2025 scaling these become 30, 41, 37, 31, 35 and 26.
Your primary four is English (30) plus the three best others: Methods (41), Chemistry (37) and Psychology (35). That makes 143. Biology and Legal Studies add 10% each, so 3.1 + 2.6 = 5.7. Your aggregate is 148.70, which is an ATAR of 87.20 in the 2025 table. Two more points in English, Methods, Chemistry or Psychology would lift it to 88.05.

Why your real ATAR can be different
- Scaling is worked out again every year, so 2026 numbers will move a little from 2025.
- VTAC's public report lists scaled scores only at study scores of 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50, and rounds them to whole numbers. VTAC itself uses two decimals. Between those points this calculator draws a straight line.
- Non-scored VCE VET, VE3 and interstate increments are not included here.
Use the range under your estimate as a guide, not a promise. Only VTAC can calculate your real ATAR.

Sources
We took scaled scores from the VTAC 2025 Scaling Report, published 11 December 2025. The ATAR lookup uses the VTAC 2025 Aggregate to ATAR Table, the rules follow the VTAC ATAR and Scaling Guide, and the dates come from VTAC key dates. We checked all four on 17 October 2026.
The estimate is worked out in your browser, and nothing you type is kept or sent. GradeKind is not part of VTAC, VCAA or any university.
Frequently asked questions
How does VTAC work out a VCE ATAR?
First every study score is scaled. VTAC then adds your scaled English study to your next three highest scaled scores, the primary four. It adds 10% of up to two more scaled scores, then ranks every aggregate in the state. In 2025, an aggregate of 155.19 gave an ATAR of 90.00.
What study scores do I need for a 90 ATAR?
In 2025 you needed an aggregate of at least 155.19. With six studies that is about a scaled 37 in each one. The raw scores behind that depend on your subjects, because some studies scale up and others scale down.
What ATAR is an aggregate of 150?
In the 2025 VTAC table an aggregate of 150.00 gave an ATAR of 87.75. For comparison, 140 gave 82.55, 160 gave 91.80 and 170 gave 95.00.
Do my fifth and sixth studies count?
Yes, at 10% each. A fifth study with a scaled score of 30 adds 3.0 to your aggregate. Near an ATAR of 80 that is worth almost two ATAR points: 135.00 was 79.60 and 138.00 was 81.40 in the 2025 table.
When do 2026 ATARs come out?
VTAC puts out VCE results and ATARs together, at 7am on Thursday 10 December 2026. Digital ATAR statements follow at 9am on 15 December.
Is this an official VTAC tool?
No. It is an estimate built from the data VTAC has published for 2025. VTAC calculates every official ATAR, and 2026 scaling will not be exactly the same.
