ATAR Calculator Australia
Pick the state where you are finishing Year 12. Victorian and NSW students can estimate an ATAR from their marks with our full calculators. If you already know your aggregate, the converter turns it into an ATAR with the official 2025 table from VTAC, UAC, SATAC or TISC.

Aggregate to ATAR
That aggregate is outside the range for this table.
The lowest aggregate for each ATAR in 2025
Each state adds up scores in its own way, so compare down a column, not across a row. All figures come from the official 2025 tables. Queensland is missing because QTAC does not publish an aggregate to ATAR table.
| ATAR | Victoria (VTAC aggregate) | NSW (out of 500) | SA and NT (out of 90) | WA (TEA out of 430) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 99.95 | 211.42 | 479.4 | 89.30 | 405.5 |
| 99.00 | 192.10 | 447.8 | 87.25 | 348.1 |
| 98.00 | 183.81 | 433.2 | 85.50 | 326.7 |
| 95.00 | 169.85 | 404.6 | 81.45 | 295.3 |
| 90.00 | 155.19 | 370.7 | 76.45 | 269.6 |
| 85.00 | 144.45 | 341.6 | 72.10 | 251.7 |
| 80.00 | 135.65 | 313.8 | 68.25 | 237.9 |

| 50.00 | 94.06 | 165.7 | 44.85 | 178.4 |
WA figures are TISC's lowest TEA for at least that ATAR. For 70.00 TISC lists a TEA of 215.7, which gave 70.05.

How each state works out the ATAR
- Victoria (VTAC): your English study plus your next three best scaled study scores make the primary four. Then 10% of up to two more scaled scores is added.
- New South Wales (UAC): an aggregate out of 500 made from scaled marks in your best 2 units of English and your best 8 other units.
- ACT: the ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies and UAC work out the ATAR together, and students receive it from their school.
- Queensland (QTAC): QTAC uses your five best scaled results: either five General subjects, or four General subjects plus a fifth result from one Applied subject or one VET Certificate III or higher. You need at least a C in an English subject, but English only counts if it is one of your best five.
- South Australia and the Northern Territory (SATAC): SATAC builds a university aggregate out of 90 from the best scaled scores in three 20-credit subjects and the best 30-credit flexible option. SATAC does not publish scaled scores for single subjects.
- Western Australia (TISC): TISC adds your four best scaled scores to make the TEA, then adds 10% of your best language score and 10% of your Mathematics Methods and Mathematics Specialist scores. The maximum is 430.
- Tasmania: you need the TCE and Satisfactory Achievement or better in at least four TASC Level 3 or Level 4 courses. The University of Tasmania is the state's admissions centre.
What your ATAR means
Think of the ATAR as a position in a line, not a mark out of 100. It goes from 0.00 to 99.95 in steps of 0.05, so 100 is not possible. It shows your place among everyone your age in your state, not just your Year 12 class. With 80.00 you are ahead of 80 per cent of your age group.
According to UAC, the average ATAR tends to be near 70.00. It would be 50.00 if every student got one, but students who leave school early do not, so the group that stays is stronger. An ATAR of 85.00 means the same in every state, even though each state works out its own.
In NSW an ATAR below 30.00 shows as "30 or less" on your ATAR advice.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good ATAR?
That depends on the course you want. Most years the average sits near 70.00. An 80.00 puts you ahead of 80 per cent of your age group, and a 90.00 ahead of 90 per cent. Check the lowest selection rank for your course on your admissions centre website.
What is the average ATAR?
UAC puts it at about 70.00 in a normal year. It would be 50.00 if every school student got an ATAR, but students who leave before the end of Year 12 do not get one, so the average is higher.
Is an ATAR the same in every state?
Yes. An 85.00 from NSW stands for the same rank as an 85.00 from any other state. Each state works out its own ATARs from its own Year 12 results.
When do ATARs come out in 2026?
Victoria on Thursday 10 December, NSW on Wednesday 16 December, Queensland on Friday 18 December and Western Australia on Sunday 20 December. Tasmanian results come out on Wednesday 16 December, and the ACT, South Australia and the Northern Territory release theirs in mid-December.
Can I work out my exact ATAR before results?
No. The tables change every year, so the 2025 tables only give a close guide. TISC itself warns that its calculator should not be used to predict future ATARs.
What is the highest ATAR?
99.95 is the top. ATARs go from 0.00 up to 99.95 in steps of 0.05, which is why nobody gets 100.
